Logistician in training
The logistics profession has different aspects: incoming goods, out-going goods, order picking, packing and checking. Everything is a part of it, which makes the work very diversified. At the moment I work as a controller. That refers to the outgoing goods.
After the ordered goods have been collected according to the bill of lading, I check everything once again for completeness and accuracy. Only then do I release the goods for packaging. As a controller I assume responsibility for seeing that the correct goods reach the customers in the correct quantity. And I see the whole SCHURTER world, all of the continents and places around the globe where our customers are located – at least on paper.
I find the activity as an order picker particularly exciting and interesting. One doesn't remain the whole day at the same place there, but is constantly on the move. Also with the forklift. I had to complete an extra, intercompany course (IC) for that, where I learned everything needed to use, operate and maintain the forklift.
As an apprentice, I appreciate the support and targeted mentoring I have received at SCHURTER from the supervisors and staff. When I don't know something, the colleagues do not become grumpy but help me instead. The team attitude is super; I feel I am in good hands. Even with the school issues. If necessary, my training instructor will gladly take the time to help me prepare for the tests or to discuss something. What I also like are the special company events for all of the apprentices. That may be visits to companies or once in a while a pleasant evening at the grill.
I am still really enjoying the training at SCHURTER. Being a logistician is my profession, in the future as well. Therefore I can imagine – after successfully completing the training and then the military service – completing advanced training to become a logistics expert. Will have to see what happens; there is still time.
