Superb silver medal and victory in the overall World Cup for the lightweight four on the Rotsee
At 11:03 am last Sunday you could not move neart the Rotsee because of a big crowd cheering for their teams. No wonder, at this time the Final of the lightweight men's four was announced and within this: the Swiss flagship. After a victory in the first World Cup in May and a second place at the second World Cup in Varese just a month ago, there was the possibility that the Swiss team could win the overall World Cup - the last time a Swiss crew managed this was Gier/Lätt in 2001 in the lightweight double.
An unusually restrained start made the Swiss rowing quartet cross the 500m mark in fifth position, then turning up stroke by stroke and fighting their way into third position at half way. The closer the event came to the finishing area, the Rotsee turned into a lions den: cowbells and loud "Go Switzerland" from the raging crowd nearly drowned out the commentator in the last 500m. The New Zealanders were able to to save their lead over the finish line. Thanks to the second place, the Swiss took the overall World Cup of this season in the lightweight four.
SCHURTER AG extends its congratulations to the athletes and is delighted to continue supporting Swiss rowing in the future.
